Constructive surface return
From scan to sophisticated CAD model - with structure, logic and precision.
When it comes to accurately reconstructing a component not only visually but also functionally, a pure surface model is not enough. Our constructive reverse engineering aims to generate a fully functional CAD model from a 3D scan – with clearly defined features, reference systems and design intelligence.
In contrast to pure surface recirculation, the focus here is on technical usability:
- Design logic instead of pure form
- Drawing and CAD compatibility
- Feature-based structure
Our approach
We analyze the geometry and reconstruct systematically:
- Basic geometries such as planes, cylinders, radii, bores, grooves, threaded attachments, etc.
- Symmetries and control geometries
- Functional surfaces with tolerance reference
- Dimension and shape reference systems according to drawing or scan
Conversion takes place directly in CAD-compatible formats (e.g. STEP, IGES, X_T or native formats) so that you can immediately process the model further, dimension it or integrate it into assemblies.
Typical use cases
- Reverse engineering for outdated or no longer available design data
- Tool or mould making (e.g. for digitizing tool corrections)
- Series transfer of prototypes
- Reconstruction of old technical parts
- Post-documentation of manufactured components
Your advantages
- Parametric CAD compatibility - ideal for design reuse
- Function-oriented design - clear surface and feature structure
- Geometric traceability - for the inspection chain, QA and change management
- Efficient further processing in CAD, CAM and CAE systems
Do you need a consistent CAD model as a basis for design, production or documentation?
We deliver not just geometry, but comprehensible, workable designs – directly from the scan.
